AARP launched its 2019 Fit & Fun Challenge on May 1, and we are ready to take thousands of people just like you on another successful 8-week journey to healthier habits and a healthier lifestyle. Last spring, over 82,000 entrants participated in AARP’s Fit & Fun Challenge—walking 30 minutes a day every day during the 8 weeks. Along the way, we offer useful information and tips to get you started and to keep you motivated!
This year, we’ve included additional support and guidance including: an opportunity to join a team (virtual or in your community!); a warm-up room to help with tips and guidance on how to keep your healthy habits on track; and a personal dashboard that will help you monitor your progress and keep you motivated. You can join anytime and walk at your own pace.
Why is all this fun important? Quite simply: it’s about your quality of life. Being active impacts a range of issues—mind, body and spirit. For example, with more than 84 million Americans deemed to have prediabetes and the majority of them unaware of it, getting out to take a walk in nature or on a city street by yourself or with a friend may be the first step to reversing what is one of the major causes of death in the U.S.
Getting or staying fit can be a juggle of commitments and time—maybe more so as we age. While we know that eating less and moving more is a simple equation that can lead to weight loss, it is easier and more fun when partners are involved to motivate one another.
This year, we’ll offer more ways for you, your partner and/or your team to break through the barriers that keep you from sharpening those daily habits. And, just like last year, you’ll be able to share your healthy journeys with us through social media and through the www.aarp.org/challenge site.
